Your physician has requested that you have a MUGA (Multiple Gated Acquisition) heart examination. This is a safe, simple, non-invasive way to evaluate how well your heart muscle contracts and expands while you rest. There are no dietary restrictions either before or after this examination.
The test does require you to receive an injection. A small amount of blood will be drawn and mixed with a radioactive tracer called Technetium. After approximately 25 minutes of mixing, you will be reinjected with the radioactive tracer tagged to your blood. The injection will not make you feel hot or cold, dizzy or nauseated. The amount of radioactivity associated with this injection is negligible.
