Cardio-pulmonary rehab provides exercise, monitoring and education to help make your heart and lungs stronger. Methodist offers 3 phases of cardio-pulmonary rehab. Phase I begins in the hospital and lays the foundation for the lifestyle and behavioral changes needed for you to recuperate. Phase II consists of 8 to 12 weeks of outpatient telemetric-monitored exercise at the Methodist Wellness Center. Your program is designed for you based on your doctor's recommendations and/or the results of your exercise or stress test. Phase III provides long-term maintenance of your heart/lung fitness through continuous training and education. EKG monitoring occurs only when your signs or symptoms warrant it. Phase III is available at both the Wellness Center and EastSide Centre in East Peoria.

Anyone who has cardio-pulmonary (heart and/or lung) disease may benefit from this program. Patients who have had a "cardiac event" or who have a chronic breathing problem are often referred to cardio-pulmonary rehab. These "events" or conditions include:

  • Heart attack
  • Open heart surgery
  • PTCA/stent
  • Emphysema/COPD
  • Chronic bronchitis
  • Asthma
  • Stable angina

Your physician must refer you to our program. If you have heart or breathing problems and think you might benefit from Methodist cardio-pulmonary rehab, please talk to your doctor about a referral.
