We provide your child with:
The Kindergarten teacher, Mrs. Debbie Salander, has an Associates Degree in Elementary Education from Illinois Central College and a Bachelors Degree in Elementary Education from Illinois State University. She has been teaching Kindergarten for fifteen years now and is a tremendous asset to our program. Along with her experience, she brings the latest and greatest strategies to her classroom by attending workshops, in-services, and conferences when she can. This allows Debbie to stay current with fresh and new ideas for her students.
We provide many programs to help your child's development intellectually, socially, emotionally, physically, and creatively!
This literature-based program features big books and little books, rhyme posters, and read-aloud stories. It is based on eight thematic units: Me and My Family, Neighborhoods, Keeping Fit, Animals, Transportation, Water, Kindergarten Ecology, and Creepy Crawlies.
This program develops an awareness and understanding of the sounds made by letters. Each letter is introduced by itself and builds with other letters to make words and then words making sentences.
Both programs work together to provide mathematical experience that help develop number sense and a hands-on approach to problem solving. There are fourteen chapters in all: Position and Classify, Sorting Data and Graphs, Patterns, Numbers to 5, Numbers to 10, Numbers to 20, and Numbers to 100. There is also Money, Measurement, Time, Addition Concepts, Subtraction Concepts, and Geometry and Fractions.
The kindergarten science curriculum is on the developing of awareness of the world we live in. Your child will learn through direct participation about Life Science, Physical Science, Earth Science, and the Human Body.
Rolling into our parking lot on Tuesday mornings is the Peoria Public Library's Bookmobile. The children can check out books as long as they have a library card from their local library at no additional cost.
Second Step is another popular program introduced in Kindergarten. This is a program that will help the students with empathy training, emotion management, and problem solving. Through role-playing the children learn how to care for others, make good choices, and always do the right thing.
Sally Anderson offers an additional music class called Music for Moppets. For an additional fee, she introduces your child to the keyboard, musical notes, composers, plus so much more.
Tumblebus and Boogiebus are also offered at the center for an additional fee during the time they are at school. The children are able to participate in tumbling and dance classes on a school bus that has been converted into a "gym on wheels."
Because we have a small class size of twelve, our Kindergarten program benefits your child academically by being able to learn by doing and experiencing, and socially by feeling comfortable in a small, supportive group of peers.
A wonderful Kindergarten experience is waiting for your child here at Methodist Family Child Care Center. We are looking forward to forming partnerships with families and working together to make the "World of Kindergarten" the best possible experience ever!
